electric car parking Dubai

Dubai to provide free parking for electric cars

The latest transport news in UAE has come roaring out of Dubai. The UAE has long been committed to making its roads greener to protect the environment and citizens who live there. Part of this aim is the so-called ‘Green Economy’ that the UAE is planning to have installed by 2021. This latest green mobility news from Dubai sees them taking a lead in the region around this subject.

220 free parking slots to be made available

Dubai will introduce 220 free parking slots in 2018 solely for users of electric vehicles. It is hoped measures like this will encourage more people to use electric cars and thus help the push to a greener economy. It has also been confirmed that there will be stiff penalties for any drivers of non-electric vehicles that steal any of the spaces. A fine of around AED1,000 is thought to be in place for any drivers who are tempted to park where they shouldn’t be!

Phase one of the plan already complete

The work to build these 220 parking spaces has been split into two phases. Phase One has been completed already and seen around 70 spaces allocated to several areas in Dubai. Phase Two will be completed during the rest of 2018 at which time all 220 spaces will have been created. It is thought that around 40 locations in Dubai will have these types of parking spaces in them. They are to be clearly marked when created to avoid any confusion or accidental incorrect use.

BMW Electric Van concept

Part of wider UAE initiative

This is not the first measure that has been introduced across UAE to encourage the use of electric vehicles. In September 2017, the authorities announced that all electric vehicle users could charge their vehicles up at any charging station in the UAE for free until 2019. With 100 charging stations in Dubai already, this is another superb incentive for citizens to think about driving in a greener way.

In addition to this, there is already free registration for electric vehicles which makes them more attractive to drive. All these different measures show that the UAE government are making it as easy as possible for drivers to switch to electric vehicles.

Maserati to launch pre-owned program in UAE

Maserati is to launch a pre-owned program in the UAE, which is good news for those who are a fan of luxury cars but perhaps don’t have the budget to purchase a new one. The move, which has long been rumoured, is the strongest indication we’ve seen that Maserati is looking to increase its market share. Not only that, but by launching the program, they’re targeting a larger clientele. Dubbed ‘Officine Maserati’, the program will not only be launched in the UAE, but customers in Bahrain as well as Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan can also expect to see pre-owned Maseratis arriving soon. It will also be available in South Africa, Morocco, Lebanon and Kuwait.

Fully certified

Maserati Quattro in DubaiUnsurprisingly, the program is fully certified and will underline Maserati’s commitment to care, capabilities and advanced training. This is particularly evident with the inspection all cars undertake before being improved. As part of the service, Maserati is providing all cars with a 121 point inspection, which will be carried out only by Maserati technicians who are factory trained. Any reconditioning work is also set to be carried out according to the brand’s rigorous standards.

Full peace of mind

Speaking about the program, Luca Delfino, Maserati’s General Manager for the Middle East, stated Officine Maserati is set to ‘strengthen our promise’ to the consumer by providing them with the ‘opposite’ of ordinary. With all pre-owned vehicles offering customers everything they would expect from a new Maserati, Delfino went on to say that anyone purchasing a Maserati through the program will benefit from ‘complete peace of mind’ thanks to the 121 point inspection. With a brand name that’s synonymous with luxury and style, it should come as no surprise that Maserati will have one of the toughest processes in place to ensure any Maserati vehicle accepted onto the program is befitting of the badge.

Extras

Anyone purchasing a Maserati through the Officine Maserati program can expect to benefit from decent extras including an unlimited mileage warranty which will last for as many as two additional years. There’s also a CPO certificate as well as detailed customer welcome pack.

2018 MG RX5 set to arrive in the region

The latest transport news in UAE surrounds the manufacturer MG. The Chinese-based company are eyeing the budget crossover market as one they would like to expand into, and, with this in mind, they have announced plans to launch their new 2018 MG RX5 crossover SUV at the upcoming Riyadh Motor Show in Saudi Arabia. This has naturally led to many people in the UAE hoping it will arrive here soon, too.

What can UAE drivers expect when it is available to buy here?

Full spec but low price

MG know the budget crossover area of the automotive market is packed full of competition from other manufacturers. As such, it is believed that they will price this crossover to sell at around the AED50,000 mark. This would certainly be a sensible move if it is to do battle with the Kias and Hyundais of this world.

It seems the competitive price point doesn’t mean a lack of features, though. MG have revealed that car buyers still get lots of fun kit inside, like LED headlights.

Sleek lines hide pure power

From the pictures released to date, the 2018 RX5 looks pretty special. Sleek, soft curves and sporty lines make it a car that drivers in the UAE will want to be seen in. These striking looks hide a choice of two engine sizes for buyers to choose from.

The base model is expected to be a 1.5 litre turbocharged engine with four cylinders, while the upgrade is a 2.0 litre, turbocharged engine for extra zip. In China, there is a hybrid version available to buy, but it is thought that this won’t be available in UAE and the region when it is launched here for now.

A credible choice in the UAE crossover market

Although no more information will be known until after the launch, it would seem this car will be a credible choice on the face of it. The RX5 has a long wheelbase and is bigger than some of its rivals, so it may be perfect for those who need more room. According to the makers, it is still light and fun to drive, though, so it should be great when out on the UAE roads.

UAE motorists face fee increases in vehicle registration restructure

Car owners in the UAE will face new fees which could make buying and selling cars more expensive, as a new federally unified fee structure for vehicle registration and testing is introduced across all of the Emirates.

The fees introduced on 1 December by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum will apply federally and replace the piecemeal approach which had existed in the past.

The changes represent a major overhaul of all charges relating to driver licensing, vehicle registration and vehicle testing across the UAE, and will mean a general increase in costs. For example, a Dh100 increase for registration renewal that was Dh250 and is now Dh350. Opening a traffic file will now cost Dh200, an inspection report for a simple accident will now cost Dh500, and renewal of a light vehicle license will cost Dh350.

The sudden move by the federal government is part of a general effort to increase road safety and unify standards across all of the Emirates, with a view to making the UAE one of the safest countries in the world to drive. However, the changes have also caused concern, as some fees have more than doubled, and some fear they will make it harder for ordinary people to buy, sell and own cars.

The group of motorists hit particularly hard are international drivers attempting to convert their licenses for use in the UAE. The single one-off fee has been replaced with a series of smaller fees, including for the conversion cost and a new handbook manual, that has the effect of raising the total cost from Dh400 to Dh870.

This new set of fees is designed to complete the next step on the road to tighter traffic and vehicle regulations in the UAE, and follows the introduction of 17 new articles in July which introduced new motoring offences and made the punishments for some existing offences more severe in order to clamp down on road safety.

The Ministerial Decision No. 30 for 2017 was issued on October 4 to regulate traffic services and safety, and was published in the official federal gazette.

Dubai Roads

Dubai’s roads are being improved in time for Expo 2020

If you’re interested in the world of technology and innovation, you’ve probably heard of Expo 2020. The event (which is inspired by the Great Exhibition of 1851) will be held just over two years from now and will showcase major developments in technology, industry and other areas of innovation. UAE residents should be particularly excited by Expo 2020, because it is going to be held in the thriving and futuristic city of Dubai. What Dubai’s residents may not realise is that Expo 2020 is already having a major effect on their city, as the event is driving major infrastructure development. Dubai’s authorities want to create iconic structures and landmarks for the exhibition that will last long after the event itself is over. They are also in the process of improving existing pieces of infrastructure.

UAE motorists like you will be affected by these changes. This is because Dubai’s road network is being dramatically improved for Expo 2020. This is a sensible move, as thousands of people will flock to Dubai while the expo is going on. The roads will need to be able to cope with the extra traffic. However, the improvements to Dubai’s roads will obviously remain in place after the expo has finished. They will be part of the expo’s legacy by permanently making life easier for ordinary motorists.

Including the plans to overhaul Dubai’s road network, the emirate currently has more than two hundred transportation projects in progress. But what sort of changes should you expect to see on the road network you use every day? It is likely that road layouts will be improved in order to make driving safer while additional roads will be added to ease traffic congestion. Roads may also be redesigned to better accommodate self-driving cars and other autonomous vehicles.

Here at Simply Car Buyers, we’re thrilled by the fact that Dubai will host Expo 2020. If you want to buy a new vehicle to celebrate the event (and take advantage of Dubai’s improved roads), you should consider investing now. The expo itself is more than two years away, but the infrastructure for it is being planned and built right now. If you need to sell your current car to make room for a new one, you should be aware that we are happy to buy any car.

The best luxury electric cars and hybrids of the past year

Luxury cars and electric vehicles are both becoming increasingly popular in Dubai. Dangerous drivers to face significant penalties in the UAE

Driving is undeniably the best way to travel in the UAE – it has some of the most advanced cars and technologically-advanced road systems in the world, yet still offers beautiful landscapes that are simply stunning to drive through. However, driving in the Emirates can also be a risky business, due to a few irresponsible motorists.

What do these irresponsible motorists do?

Car Accident DubaiSome of the country’s most dangerous drivers have been known to drive along the hard shoulder of the UAE’s motorways, even though they should be reserved for breakdowns and other emergencies. Others have been caught blocking emergency vehicles as they try to reach incident-sites.

Luckily, Abu Dhabi’s traffic authorities are cracking down on this kind of unsafe driving. They have recently introduced new fines and penalties that should help prevent hard shoulder driving and emergency vehicle blocking.

What are the new punishments?

Driving on the hard shoulder now carries a fine of Dh1,000 and a penalty of six black points on the driver’s license. Dh1,000 is a hefty fine, but the threat of six black points is likely to have a much bigger impact on bad drivers’ behaviour. After all, nobody wants to risk losing their driver’s license – especially in the UAE, where road travel is a crucial part of day to day life.

Blocking emergency vehicles also carries a fine of Dh1,000. However, drivers who commit this offence will only receive four black points on their license. While this penalty is less severe than the one associated with driving on the hard shoulder, it should still be sufficient to deter most dangerous drivers.

What does this mean for you? With dangerous drivers facing heavy fines and significant penalties, you may notice that driving around the UAE becomes a much, much safer experience. In fact, you may even want to drive further or more often. If so, you may wish to consider investing in a new vehicle.

We’re happy to buy your old car, as we buy any car in the UAE. If you’re interested in selling your current vehicle so you can invest in a new one, get in touch with us today or visit our website for more information.

Car Insurance Comparison Online

Are some drivers in the UAE under-insured?

When you think of the UAE and cars, you instantly think style and glamour. Images of fast sports cars or sleek 4x4s come to mind and, in that respect, you wouldn’t be wrong. Places like Dubai have long been a car lover’s paradise with the sheer amount of beautiful vehicles you see on the road everyday.

But did you know that a recent study has found some drivers may be under-insuring their cars?

Recent study highlights alarming trend

The latest car news in the region is that a study released by yallacompare has found that some drivers of sports cars in the UAE are not insuring their cars for the correct amount. By comparing sales data, they have found that there is a discrepancy between the average sale price of fast sports cars and what they are being insured for.

Some differences are stark

Although this is not a problem that affects every car being insured, for some models the data makes for interesting reading. A Porsche 911 Carerra 4, for example, is usually insured for around the Dh215,000 mark but the average sale price for this car at second-hand dealerships in the UAE is Dh346,000! This perfectly illustrates the findings the yallcompare study has reported and the potential problem it has uncovered.

What are the consequences of this?

In simple terms, if you under-insure your car then you may, as the driver, end up spending more of your own money to fix it if it gets damaged. While some drivers may be under-insuring on purpose to avoid high insurance premiums, the money they would then have to spend in the event of an accident makes this a flawed approach to take. Yallacompare did also note that the other reason for their findings may be that some dealerships are over-charging for certain models of car.

Correct insurance value is key

While this is not a widespread problem affecting large numbers in the UAE, it may still be worth double-checking with your insurance company if you have a high-powered sports car or luxury cars. Getting the correct insurance levels for your vehicle is vital and will certainly be worth it if you suffer any damage to your car whilst driving around.

Car Free Day DUbai

Over 60,000 cars in four emirates will not be on roads in February 4th

It is expected that over 60,000 cars will be kept off the roads in UAE on February 4th as four emirates and three more municipalities have joined Dubai’s initiative this year. Al Ain , Ajman And Ras Al Khaimah will be joining the emirate of Dubai in their annual initiative to protect the environment, this news was announced by a senior official on wednesday during a press conference.

The director general of Dubai Municipality, Mr Hussain Nasser Lootah also stated that the door is open for all municipalities of the UAE to participate in the environmental friendly initiative. Dubai’s initiative to keep cars off the roads for one day in a year has grown from a local event and has become an example for protecting the environment and reducing the carbon footprint throughout the UAE.

“One day, we want the whole of the UAE to have a day free of cars,” he said, while welcoming the other municipalities’ on board their plan to observe the day.

this is the ninth time this event is being observed, the main idea of this event is to encourage use of public transpot and make the people realise that many cars can be kept off road if the public transport system is utilized.

There are all types of different mass transport services available throughout the UAE, despite this fact there has been an increase in the number of cars being operated on the roads. Mr Lootah stated “We need to do something about it. At least one day, we need to avoid using cars and reduce the environmental pollution.”

It is also encouring to note that diffent emirates where public transport network is stil not developed as Dubai are also participating in this event.

What Will It Impact?

Mr Lootah stated that this initiative will have a significant impact on reducing overall carbon footprint which will in term reverse the adverse effects on climate change.Employees of about 200 organisations and 2,444 people in individual capacity taking part, about 60,000 vehicles were not used during the eighth edition of the Car Free Day, “which is equivalent to a reduction of about 174 tonnes of carbon emission that may necessitate the cultivation of 1,218 trees to dispose it of”.
This was 33 per cent higher than their number in the 2016 initiative, which was estimated at 45,000.

With the officials and residents of three additional municipalities which are expected to participate, the over all number of vehicles participating is epected to be aroudn 60,000.

A vehicle on a full tank of 15 gallons, Lootah said, releases about 140kg of co2 into the atmosphere.
“Thus the amount of total emissions [from such a vehicle] annually would be about four tonnes and this emission contributes towards global warming.”
This implies, if a person is driving a small car from International City to Deira, roughly 20km, you will use up 1.3 litres of fuel emitting 2.35kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. If it is a four-wheel drive, your car will emit over 7kg of carbon dioxide.

Great Growth

This initiave was tarted by dubai in 2010, in which only one thousand vehicles were kept off the streets. throughout the years the organisations and individuals which are participating in the same have increase parabolically.
Ali Ebrahim, deputy director-general of Dubai Economy, told the reporters that the department encourages its officials and also all the businesses in Dubai to participate.
deputy director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Major-General Obaid Mehayar Bin Surour, added that 3,000 officials and employees of GDRFA are expected not to use their cars for public transport on the day.

UAE cars will help drivers report accidents instantly from 2019 onwards

We have commented in previous blog entries that Dubai is one of the most advanced cities in the world. This advancement is most evident on the city’s roads. Driverless cars and electric cars are increasingly commonplace, as are vehicles with ingenious computerised safety features.

Soon, however, a new automotive feature will start making journeys safer, not just for individual drivers, but for everyone on Dubai’s roads. The UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has recently announced that all cars imported into Dubai from 2019 will be fitted with an eCall system. But what is an eCall system, and how will it make Dubai’s roads safer?

Car Accident Dubai 1At present, reporting a road accident can be a time-consuming affair. Either one of the drivers involved or a witness has to call the emergency services and provide them with a wide range of details. While this process is going on, the road surrounding the accident-site remains open and uncontrolled. This means that an accident can continue to cause problems after it has occurred, simply by obstructing drivers who aren’t expecting to encounter anything. The new eCall system will almost eliminate this problem by drastically reducing the length of time it takes to inform the emergency services that an accident has occurred.

Car Accident DubaiThe eCall system couldn’t be simpler: if a driver is involved in an accident, all they have to do is push a button and the police will be notified that an accident has occurred at their location. They will be able to dispatch emergency services to help the motorists involved in the accident and take control of the surrounding road, in order to prevent further complications almost instantly. This instant sharing of information will be achieved thanks to cooperation between the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the police force.

Of course, 2019 is still over a year away, but if you want to get a car with the new eCall system when they become available, you should start thinking about raising the capital and clearing some space on your driveway now. We can help with both, as we buy any car that you want to sell. Why not sell one of your old vehicles to make way for a car with the brand new eCall system before 2019?
