Rolls-Royce unveils luxury off-road vehicle

In many respects, SUVs are the perfect vehicles for drivers in the United Arab Emirates. They are able to handle both the extreme temperatures and rough off-road terrain of the nation’s many desert areas. On the other hand, they also provide space and comfort for drivers who have to negotiate the crowded roads of Dubai and other large cities.

Several weeks ago, we blogged about BMW’s plans to add a supersized SUV to their range that would be ideal for UAE drivers. However, it turns out that BMW might be outdone by another luxury manufacturer. Rolls-Royce recently unveiled its first-ever SUV, the ‘Cullinan’, which is design to combine the opulence of a classic Rolls with the hardiness of an SUV. The UAE has a highly aspirational culture, which means this ultra-luxurious off-road vehicle should attract a lot of buyers throughout the Emirates.

There’s no denying that the Cullinan offers the sophistication that drivers expect from Rolls-Royce vehicles. The interior is designed to look timeless and stylish. This effect is created using polished wood panelling, high-quality leather and even champagne flute holders. What’s more, its suspension system has been rigorously tested in a variety of locations around the world to make sure it provides a smooth drive on any terrain. As a result, it doesn’t just look luxurious – it should also feel luxurious.

But does it have the power and off-road performance that drivers need from an SUV? The vehicle has 563hp of horsepower and 627lb-ft of torque. This means that it’s not the most powerful SUV on the market (for example, the Bentley Bentayga has notably highly horsepower and torque). However, it is more than powerful enough to cope with the terrain in the UAE. What’s more, when it’s driving on an ordinary road surface instead of desert sand, it has a top speed of 155 miles per hour.

The Rolls-Royce Cullinan isn’t the right vehicle for everyone. It uses a great deal of petrol and its large size makes it ill-suited to negotiating narrow streets.
