Driverless Cars UAE

Driverless cars may be on Dubai’s roads by the end of the year

Self-driving cars might sound insanely futuristic, but they could be commonplace in Dubai by the end of the year. Driverless technology already exists, but can’t yet be legally used in the UAE. In fact, many automobile manufacturers and tech companies are still experimenting with and perfecting the technology. However, Dubai’s government is currently working on a new law that will allow car-owners to take advantage of the self-driving capabilities of their vehicles. By the end of the year, the residents of Dubai won’t have to drive themselves around: fully autonomous cars should start transporting their owners around the city before 2018.

Of course, not all manufacturers currently offer self-driving cars for ordinary drivers. The technology is so new and cutting-edge that it hasn’t yet been normalised among manufacturers. However, one manufacturer will definitely be ready to unleash truly autonomous cars as soon as the appropriate legislative framework is in place. That manufacturer is Tesla.

Dubai Police BMW i3 uae 1Tesla specialise in making advanced electric vehicles which incorporate a wide range of futuristic features. Their reputation as a truly forward-thinking company is well-deserved. As a result, they are ideally placed to take advantage of the new law that will allow driverless cars to be used on Dubai’s roads. In fact, many Tesla vehicles already have driverless capabilities. All the manufacturer has to do is activate them. Once Dubai is fully-prepared for driverless cars, Tesla can activate the autonomous driving features and empower car-owners to use them.

If driverless cars prove to be safe and successful in Dubai, they are likely to be legalised across the rest of the UAE. What’s more, the rest of the world is also likely to embrace driverless technology.

If you live in Dubai (or anywhere else in the UAE) and are keen to take advantage of Tesla’s self-driving technology, we can help. As prominent car buyers, we’re happy to purchase your old vehicle so you can afford a brand new Tesla. Just make sure you check which models have self-driving capabilities first!

If you do decide to sell your current car, we can evaluate the vehicle online right now. Once your car has been evaluated, we can set up an appointment so we can collect your vehicle and you can collect your cash.

Summer drives UAE car owners to tint

New regulations on the degree of tint you can add to car windows in the UAE have caused a big increase in the numbers of drivers heading to specialist services. With the summer months underway and temperatures soaring, UAE car buyers and owners are taking steps to avoid the heat.

What has changed in the regulations?

Previously traffic laws allowed car owners to have up to 30% tint in their windows. This has recently risen to 50% and there is also now greater leniency on what type of car can have window tinting. Previously, cars used for business purposes were not allowed to add tint, but now company cars can enjoy the same 50% tint saturation, so UAE firms are flocking to take advantage of this.

This means that vehicles such as taxis and trucks can now tint their windows.

The new Federal Traffic Law, which went live on July 1st, still prohibits any darkening of front windscreens on cars, however.

What are the benefits of tinted windows?

Apart from having greater ability to absorb heat, keeping the inside of cars much cooler, darker tints to windows last much longer. Having windows tinted to only 30% means having to restore their effectiveness more regularly.

There is also the question of privacy for women drivers in the UAE. Being able to drive with windows closed but still remain relatively cool is a big bonus.

The sun is so fierce in UAE, it can also damage the interiors of cars, including the dashboard. Having the full force of the sun inside the car also makes it harder for air conditioning systems to do their job and not wear out. The new 50% tint allowance could ensure that air conditioning in cars is more effective and lasts longer.

Alongside the flood of enquiries from car owners to increase the degree of their window tint, auto accessory and repair facilities have reported a significant increase in air conditioning checks and recharges. Clearly drivers are doing all they can to make sure they drive in comfort.

Three door 2017 Nissan Patrol Super Safari now on sale in Dubai

Nissan were rightfully pleased with the launch of the five door version of the Patrol Super Safari, which arrived in the UAE earlier in the year. Now the car manufacturing giant have unleashed the three door model, making it available right across the UAE as well as other GCC nations.

Nissan Super Safari 3 Door 2017Performance

It should come as no surprise that the three door version has a shorter wheelbase as well as fewer doors and seats, but, thankfully, this hasn’t affected the performance. Marketed as an off-road vehicle, those on the lookout for new cars that are able to handle all the desert has to throw at them will be more than pleased with the Super Safari.

Look

Owners can request an identical paint scheme to the five door version. There are two colour schemes available, the most popular of which is white and grey. If you really want the Super Safari to fit in with the dunes, however, there’s also a gold and grey option.

Features

Whatever colour scheme you go for, you can expect it to be complemented with features such as a reverse camera and parking sensors. Additionally there are 17-inch alloy rims on board along with grey fenders and even Super Safari decals with a traditional design. If you like, you can have an electric front winch fitted, but it’s worth remembering that the front and rear tow hooks along with the rear locking differentials come as standard.

Nissan went big on comfort for the five door model and haven’t changed anything with the three door. There’s a whole raft of comfort options available, ranging from a cool box to more tech based features such as Bluetooth connectivity, media inputs and automatic climate control.

Safety

When it comes to safety, you can rest assured that Nissan have thought of everything. Owners of the three door 2017 Nissan Patrol Super Safari can expect to find dual front airbags, tyre pressure sensors and ABS as standard, Nissan have also included vehicle dynamic control.

For those who are keen to know about the power, you’ll be pleased to know that a 4.8 litre engine sits underneath the hood. Capable of 248 horsepower, it’s certain to deliver, even on some of toughest terrains.

New Lexus LS puts safety first

Earlier this month, Lexus unveiled their latest saloon car – the new Lexus LS – and it’s as sleek and sophisticated as you’d expect. When it comes to luxury vehicles, Lexus’ experience and expertise are undeniable. Of course, many manufacturers offer luxury cars – so, what sets the Lexus LS apart?

The answer is simple: safety. Lexus’ latest offering is packed with cutting-edge technology designed to make the car as safe as possible, for both the driver and nearby road-users. The UAE’s roads can be tricky to navigate, especially in densely-packed, ultra-busy population centres.

Here’s a list of the most important features of the new Lexus LS for the safety-conscious driver.

1. Pre-collision and active steering assistance systems

The Lexus LS includes advanced sensory equipment that enables it to detect when a crash or collision is about to occur and react accordingly. In the event of an imminent collision, the pre-collision system will automatically slow the vehicle by applying the brakes while simultaneously tightening the occupants’ seat belts. Meanwhile, the Active Steering Assist system will detect whether braking is sufficient to avoid a collision. If it isn’t, the system will automatically steer the car in order to prevent a crash.

2. Hazard recognition and warnings

The LS can detect and recognise traffic lights. It can also detect pedestrians and traffic that might come across you at a junction. It is equipped to warn you whenever it detects danger and will even alert you when you’re moving from one traffic lane to another. In short, the new LS empowers you to be more aware of the road around you and any hazards that might be on it, thereby improving your driving experience.

3. Parking assistance

Even parking can be risky on occasion. That’s why the new Lexus LS includes parking assistance systems that make it easier.

Fuel UAE

Will bans on petrol and diesel cars affect UAE car buyers?

For decades, fortunes in the UAE have been built on oil, but everyone knows that it will eventually run out – hence all the current initiatives in the Gulf to broaden its economic base.

But the stark reality hit home when the French government announced that it would ban diesel and petrol cars from its roads by 2040, and Norway followed up with an even more aggressive timescale.

UAE Fuel PetrolNorway will ban the sales of new fossil-fuelled cars in the next decade, stopping short of the outright ban of the French. The goal is to have all cars running on ‘green energy’ by 2025 – and, as a quarter of vehicles in Norway are already electric and nearly all the electricity is supplied by hydro-electric plants, this could well be achievable. It is ironic to note that Norway is also a major oil producer, exporting more than any other country apart from Saudi Arabia.

So, does this mean demand for oil will start to slip away?

The initial answer it no, at least not yet. 2040 is a long way away and although cars are the most visible example of oil consumption with around 65% of oil being converted to gasoline or diesel, car drivers are not the only users of oil.

Neither France nor Norway have said that the measure will apply to commercial vehicles, which largely use diesel, as does a lot of shipping. More than 12% of oil is converted to jet fuel and demand for air travel seems to be increasing rather than slowing down.

UAE Petrol PumpAlso, the current US administration has signalled an end to environmentally-friendly policies by abandoning the Paris climate accord. As the US imports more than half its oil, that market won’t be going away anytime soon.

In the UAE there are already signs of moves toward electric and hybrid vehicles, with Tesla dealerships opening and recharging points being install throughout the region. The change is inevitable, and moves throughout the UAE are maturing to cope with the eventual end of the oil market.

If you think the time is right to trade in and switch to an electric or hybrid vehicle, talk to Simply Car Buyers to find out how easy it is to sell your existing model.

UAE Electric Car

The march of the electric car is picking up pace

Two pieces of news this week could impact the car market in the UAE in coming years. For a start, Volvo has declared that every model it produces will be an electric or hybrid come 2019. That means, even though Volvo isn’t among the top 10 brands in the UAE, other companies are likely to follow suit at their own pace, which will encourage parking garages and petrol stations to install more charging points around the region.

volvo xc90 hybridThe Volvo XC90 SUV is a modestly popular model in the UAE, but that could grow as people start to match luxury with a need to respect the environment. With high-specification interiors, 21-inch or 22-inch wheels and an understated shell, Volvo has the time to do something major to make the model more appealing.

The second piece of news could have more of an impact as France expects to ban petrol and diesel cars by the year 2040. If adopted elsewhere, that could set the agenda and a deadline for a worldwide conversion to electric vehicles. Of course, there’s a lot of politics to be discussed in the 23 years until that time, but if it does happen, or there’s a general push to 2050 which would give the rest of the world time to adapt, it could see how cars are designed, built and sold change radically around the world.

Electric cars might be dominated by the big marques, but these changes create new opportunities for smaller names to design novel or stylish models to compete. We’ve already seen the Lykan supercar and SandRacer born locally, and there will be many opportunities for new brands to create the mass market or niche electric cars of the future, best suited to the local environment.

However these plans or changes play out, they are part of a concerted effort to consign the petrol engine to history, so all those in the car business and every driver had better get ready and prepare for a changing world. You can bet some countries will adapt slower or faster, and it will be interesting to see how the UAE will pass laws or respond to the wider market changes.

UAE Own Supercar manufacturer unveils the SandRacer

Say hello to the SandRacer 500GT, a car that is the result of over two years’ worth of testing and mechanical improvements. From Zarooq Motors, who are based in the UAE, the first production model will be available with a price tag of AED 1.7 million.

Sandracer 500GTThe car, which has two seats and rear wheel drive, has gone big on luxury with the interior thanks to the luxury hand-stitched leather. Although it doesn’t have the appearance you’d normally associate with a supercar, the exterior of the SandRacer has been crafted entirely from carbon-fibre.

Sandracer GT500Those with decent memories will recall the initial design of the car was unveiled back in 2015 at the Abu Dhabi grand prix. The differences in appearance between the SandRacer and regular supercars show Zarooq Motors are clearly hoping to appeal to a broader range of car buyers. Zarooq believe there is a strong market for cars that have the power of a supercar, but are also practical. Zarooq executive Mohammed Al Qadi stated that most supercars aren’t designed with speed bumps in mind, before adding that the SandRacer 500GT has been designed to suit both ‘city commuting’ and ‘off-road’ terrain.

By appealing to fans of both supercars and luxury cars, Al Quadi believes the SandRacer is a highly versatile vehicle, suitable for both a ‘week-end track day’ and a ‘luxurious commute’ throughout the city. He even stated that the SandRacer is capable of tackling some of the ‘toughest dunes’ the Arabian Desert has to offer.

UAE Sandracer GT500When it comes to the luxurious elements of the car, reports have stated that materials that have been used by both Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini were used in the design process for the SandRacer’s interior. New owners of the SandRacer can expect a digital dashboard and climate control as standard. Additionally, there’s CarPlay compatibility, and carbon fibre has been used in the seats and steering wheel. Performance wise, there’s a 6.2 litre V8 on board capable of 525hp and 660Nm, which has been designed to work seamlessly with the lightweight racing chassis.

If you’re interested in the SandRacer then you’re going to have to be quick, sales have already started. There are 35 first limited-edition cars in total, and those that have already been ordered are scheduled to be delivered by the end of the year.

BMW get ready to compete with Tesla in the electric car market

It’s no secret that Tesla dominate the electric car market. Soon, however, the manufacturer may have to cope with serious competition from one of the world’s foremost luxury car companies. According to the website ‘Trusted Reviews’, it seems that BMW are planning on unveiling an electric car designed to compete directly with the Tesla Model 3. But what kind of vehicle is it and what makes it so special? Taking on Tesla in the electric car market isn’t easy, yet BMW seem confident that they can do it. If that’s the case, their new electric vehicle must be rather spectacular.

BMW Electric Van conceptThe new, as-yet-unnamed vehicle will be based on BMW’s 3-series. The 3-series is currently one of the manufacturer’s most profitable and accessible lines, so we can expect their new electric car to be a truly top-quality (yet affordable) vehicle. It will also be the company’s first completely electric sedan. While BMW has produced electric cars before, adding a sedan to their electric range is still a big deal.

BMW’s electric sedan will purportedly have a range of 400km or more. That’s a respectable range for any type of automotive and a truly staggering one for an electric car.

BMW are best known for making sturdy, durable vehicles. If their new electric car is as tough as other cars in their range, it would be ideal for long-range driving across rugged terrain. If you’re based in the UAE and are looking for a car that will transport you between cities comfortably and reliably, you should keep a watchful eye on BMW over the next few months.

The new car should be revealed officially in September at the Munich Auto Show. In order to compete with Tesla, BMW will probably release their new model soon after unveiling it. If you’re interested in investing in the new model, you may wish to start saving now. September will be here sooner than you think.

Bentley unleashes limited-edition SZR Mulliner exclusive to UAE

In one of the most exciting pieces of transport news in UAE this year, we can reveal that Bentley’s latest run of vehicles have been crafted with the Emirates in mind.

The UAE has always had a soft spot for Bentley – the iconic motoring brand recently opened its largest showroom to date in the country – and now residents are set to be given exclusive access to a limited run of three vehicles, known as SZR by Mulliner.

Each of the vehicles have been designed by Bentley’s in-house luxury department and are based on the classic Bentley Continental GTC V8. The cars are finished in an eye-catching ghost-white paint job which contrasts with touches of orange flame on the hood and trims.

Luxury interior

Bently InteriorNo expense is spared inside each of the models, which feature a sumptuous tri-tone interior that perfectly and understatedly compliments the exterior.

Said interior is manufactured from an all-new trim, known as “sparkle carbon”, which is a combination of three fabrics – copper foil, carbon fibre and metal wire. These are combined and then meticulously polished, lacquered and cut down to size to provide a luxurious fascia, instrument panel and console.

As can be expected from Bentley, there’s no shortage of premium features for comfort and added enjoyment on the road. The cockpit features memory foam seats, ventilation, an intuitive multimedia system with touchscreen functionality for ease of use, and everything else in between.

The king of luxury cars: what’s under the hood?

As could be predicted, Bentley’s signature 4-litre twin turbo V8 petrol motor is the beating heart of each model, providing power to all four wheels. With a 520bhp rating, this UAE exclusive soft-top can reach speeds of 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds.

New cars in the UAE

Bently MullinerWhen asked for comment, Stephen Reynolds, the regional director for Bentley in the UAE, said that the company wanted to do “something special” for its loyal customer base in the UAE, and that the custom Mulliner designs will cement the loyal relationship between Bentley and Emirates-based Al Habtoor Motors, which is regarded as one of Bentley’s most revered global partners.
