Chevrolet Blot Dubai

Hey Chevy ! What about the Bolts?

The race to be the first manufacturer offering an electric car with the capacity to travel more than 200 miles without recharging is ramping up, and Chevy is in the lead. Presuming there are no last-minute mishaps, GM is set to roll out the Chevrolet Bolt, starting at a price below $40,000 (before tax), prior to the end of the year. This will pop Tesla, the electric car manufacturer, to the post as their Model 3 is not set to launch until next year.

Both the Chevy Bolt and Model 3 are a bold attempt to launch EVs into the United States’ mainstream automobile market, however, they have contrasting strategies.

Chevrolet Bolt production has been accelerated by GM as the first delivery date draws closer. Working on its current pattern of a single shift, GM’s Orion assembly plant boasts a 90,000 capacity for the production of new cars every year. This now comes with the ability to switch from producing Chevy Bolts to Sonics on a single line, depending on the demand. By contrast, Tesla is approaching things with far less caution, as they reconfigure their factory in Fremont to ensure it is capable of producing Model 3 EVs at a rate of up to 500,000 per year.

The Bolt comes in at just under $40K, with a starting price of $37,495, and a range of 238 miles. It’s a utilitarian hatchback, compactly built, featuring design quirks like a slender front seat, intended to increase the legroom in the back. It’s hoped this will make the car particularly attractive to taxi drivers and cab firms.

Plug-in hybrid sales and electric car sales comprise only one percent of the light vehicle market in the United States, despite efforts by the government to encourage consumers to buy cleaner cars. GM officials are keeping tight-lipped over how many orders they have received for Bolts to date, however, their Maven car sharing initiative is set to receive Bolts for drivers wanting to work for Lyft, GM’s partner in the ride-hailing industry.

Delivery of Chevy Bolts is expected to start before the year ends.

Uber and Maven Taxis

Maven and Uber’s car rental scheme

San Fransisco, California, is now at the forefront of a new scheme of car rental geared towards Uber drivers. In partnership with Maven, the car sharing the branch of General Motors (ironically a huge sponsor of Uber’s main competitors, Lyft), Uber is offering the opportunity to rent either a Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Malibu, or Chevrolet Trax, for $179 a week, including insurance. Although this fee doesn’t include other fees or tax it is still being considered as great value for money for drivers.

The new program will be called ‘Uber Vehicle Solutions’, and is set to add another string to Maven’s car sharing bow. General Motor’s extensive fleet will give many people opportunities to work and utilize a vehicle for personal use.

This flexible new system can all be controlled through an app on the driver’s smartphone, which will allow the driver to choose their car, their choice of pick up location, and length of rental period. There are not even any limitations on the mileage that can be racked up in that time.

This system is set to be a fantastic alternative to car ownership as drivers are able to use the cars for personal use, as well as make money through Uber fares. It’s also a good way for drivers to rent a car with the intention of keeping their Uber miles off their personal vehicle and maintain value.

The move towards ‘social driving’ has been looked into before by the likes of General Motors, with their Express Drive program, which allows car owners to rent their vehicle to Lyft drivers on short term loan. The rates from Uber Vehicle Solutions seem to be in line with other short-term car rental schemes and show a steady move towards this being the norm.

The scheme will be piloted for 90 days and will keep its operations solely in the San Fransisco area for the time being, but it’ll certainly be interesting to see how this takes off. Maven’s recent expansion into the Los Angeles area of California shows they’re not planning on slowing down anytime soon. Is car renting the future of car ownership?

Our guide to buying the perfect convertible

Convertible cars are the epitome of timeless cool – they come and go, but they’re never out of fashion. People’s preference for a hard top, soft top, or retractable roofs aside, the market is steady for convertible lovers. They’re never going to see the burst of popularity that hatchbacks and saloons have, but every generation seems to love them. The crowning glory of many manufacturer’s line-ups, the convertible, in all its forms, looks like it’s here to stay. Here are just a few examples of the best buy convertibles for this year.

2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

This car is quintessential butch elegance, with practicality and comfort very obviously at the forefront of its design. The exposed hinges are a subtle reminder of the Jeep’s history, while the rest of it exudes modern charm. With a choice of soft or hard top available, and a windshield that flips down for an unobstructed off-road view, this car is as flexible as you can get.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata

If there was ever a luxury car made with car enthusiasts in mind, this is it. There are subtle differences between the Japanese and US models. With 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, the US-spec Miata really packs a punch. At around 130 pounds heavier, it has it all – comfort, class, and it’s a beauty to behold. The electric power-assisted set up of this beauty makes the car feel truly progressive, as though the car rotates around you. It’s basically a classic Miata, with a new lease of life.

2017 Fiat 124 Spider

This car is everything a sports car could ever want to be. A result of cooperative engineering, the Fiat 124 and the MX-5 Miata are intimately connected. The perfection of the Miata left little work to be done on the chassis for the Fiat 124, mostly focussed on some fine-tuning to the suspension. The turbocharged engine and sound deadening contribute to the Fiat 124’s weight compared to the Miata, but most of it is down to the style. Externally, the two cars couldn’t look more different, but both classy and beautiful in their own right.

Hybrid Car Dubai

The positive and negative arguments for buying a hybrid car

They can save you money on fuel, are better for the environment, and with an increasing number of models becoming available, are now trendier than ever. But is it all plain sailing for hybrid cars – after all, if they’re so good, wouldn’t everyone be driving a hybrid car? In this blog we take a look at the positive sides of purchasing a ‘car for the future’, and look at why you might sell a hybrid car if you aren’t happy with it.

Positives

Incentive to drive efficiently

When you accelerate gradually in a hybrid car, this often uses only the electric engine. For drivers that usually love putting the pedal to the metal, this can encourage them to drive slower and more efficiently.

Suited to the city

For urban residents, a hybrid car can present the perfect solution. Whenever you stop, you are theoretically charging by electricity generation, which gives you power to use at low speeds in typically congested areas.

It’s oh so quiet

If you like the feeling of slipping down the road almost unnoticed, hybrid cars are discernibly slower than cars which are running a gasoline engine.

Nice and warm

Models such as the Toyota Prius are able to keep the car warm on those cold winter mornings by storing coolant in a Thermos-type container. This means you won’t be putting your cold engine under unnecessary pressure when starting it.

Negatives

Increase in fuel prices = rise in hybrid prices

As the cost of filling up surges, hybrid cars become more of an attractive option for drivers looking to buy a car, and when something becomes popular, naturally prices begin to rise.

Lack of larger vehicles

There is a distinct lack of hybrid options in the SUV market, and for those of us with a family, that value the option of a third row of seats, this can be a decisive factor. Toyota’s Highlander Hybrid SUV is one of the alternatives, however, although it has been pulled up for the comparatively low mileage it offers compared to smaller hybrids.

Weak battery

It has been reported that an ‘aftermarket’ battery that can be purchased for a hybrid car actually lasts a lot longer than the one which comes with the vehicle. Mistakes such as leaving an interior light on could leave you completely drained.

BMW motorcycle

BMW looks to the future of motorcycles

While BMW is, of course, best known for taking cars to the next level, the world-famous German brand has recently unveiled a new motorcycle concept which could provide hints to what the future holds for riding on two wheels instead of four.

The BMW Motor rad VISION NEXT 100 was recently unveiled in California and looks more akin to something from a science fiction film than a bike you would see on the road.

According to BMW, one of the fundamental aims of the design is to create the next generation of motorbikes, as well as a model which allows the rider to truly enjoy a feast for the senses. They hope to achieve this grand claim by removing the need for protective equipment.

The VISION NEXT 100 is self-balancing, both when stationary and on the move. Not only is this ideal for beginners and in terms of safety, but it also means more experienced riders can benefit from greater levels of agility. Furthermore, on-board assistance systems mean that users can continually develop their skills and get even more out of the bike.

To cap off the very futuristic feel, the VISION NEXT 100 comes with an accompanying visor which functions with the bike. While it will keep your vision clear for enjoying your ride, it can showcase key information on potential hazards or any details you choose to request during the journey.

Discussing the thought process for the project to create the VISION NEXT 100, Edgar Heinrich, head of design at BMW Motorrad, said: “When we develop a motorcycle, we are usually thinking around five to 10 years in the future. So taking a look further into the future was especially exciting for us and highly appealing.”

This bike is part of the major NEXT 100 initiative, which has been developed to provide an insight into what the next 100 years of transport may look like. In addition to BMW Motor-rad, other BMW Group companies such as Mini and Rolls-Royce have also developed prototype vehicles as part of the project.

Mazda Mx 5 Matt black

Hey MAZDA ! Whats new ?

Mazda Mx 5 Matt black

Mazda’s MX-5 creations are generally a highlight, unapologetic Miata junkies that we are. This year’s cars are just as exciting as the past years’,  Both SEMA MX-5s were designed and built in-house at Mazda’s Irvine design studio.

This year’s Speedster is way lighter than it was before. Mazda carved 100 pounds out of it, to make it a staggering 350 pounds less than a production soft top model. It’s also been repainted in a color called “White Ether”, which  looks like the “Blue Ether” paint job on last year’s highly reflective Speedster minus the blue tint. Mazda will probably never sell a roofless Miata or anything this lightweight, but maybe it should.

RF Kuro concept, the first RF-based SEMA show car. It doesn’t seem terribly extreme!  It’s wearing a matte charcoal paint, which explains the “Kuro” moniker – kuro means “charcoal” in Japanese. A set of 17-inch RAYS forged wheels and MX-5 Cup suspension, and that’s about it.

Of course, both concepts will be fully revealed at the show next month in Las Vegas. Stay tuned for a dose of concept Miata hotness.

Tesla Car Dubai

Luxury cars: the Tesla uprising

Electric car pioneers Tesla are determined to keep on top of the automotive buyer’s ever changing requirements. In doing so, they have entered a new market – that of the luxury car.

Tesla’s Sales Record over years
If you compare the sales records for this year and last, demand for Tesla’s Model S saloon increased by nearly 60% in the same quarter. This gives Tesla’s Model S quite a large lead over the other larger sized luxury cars. Of course, these figures came direct from Tesla themselves, who broke with tradition and released their internal third quarter sales figures – something they never do. This gives Tesla a market share of nearly one-third of all car sales in this category, although the recently revamped Mercedes S Class and BMW’s 7 series are hot on its heels.

Tesla is also breaking ground in the luxury SUV marketplace. Its recent release, the Model X, made sales of 5,428 during the third quarter. This gave them a 6% market share, which is not to be sniffed at, especially given the production issues which afflicted the Model X’s initial release at the start of the year. While it may not seem like a particularly high quantity of sales, it sold better than similar offerings from Land Rover and Porsche, although it fell behind seven other models from Lexus, Audi, Volvo, Cadillac, Mercedes and BMW.

What do BMW and Mercedes Say about Tesla?
When approached for a comment, a spokesperson for BMW said that they could not discuss Tesla’s figures. They would simply say that electric cars are making good progress, and gaining popularity, which is good for everyone in the automotive industry. When Mercedes were asked to comment, they did not reply to an email of the same request.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, had really emphasized to his sales staff how important it was to keep sales coming and profits high while they were making such good progress, bringing in the finances needed to help increase company spending. Tesla’s current projects, which include the acquisition of Solar City Corp, and the release of its entry level model, Model 3, should be well in progress by late next year.

Whats
The Model 3 is an exciting new project for Tesla, taking them in a new direction. You might be mistaken for thinking that Tesla intended to focus solely on their luxury models, although with 17 million new cars and trucks heading on to driveways across America last year, Tesla have to find new ways to capture more of the market. The Model 3 allows them to access the entry level luxury market. Pitched as one of the more affordable vehicles in this class, the $35,000 Model 3 will hopefully be as successful as the Model S. Tesla are throwing everything at it to ensure its success as well. A new, large scale battery production plant has been built in Nevada, the expansion of its factory in California, and an increase in the service and sales network across the world are just some of the methods Musk hopes will put Tesla at the top of the pile.

Whats Next?
It may seem like a hard task, but Musk has set himself a target to build 500,000 Tesla’s per year by the end of 2018. This should put it within, and hopefully at, the top of charts for luxury car manufacturing. It will be interesting to see if he achieves it.

Expensive Cars In Dubai

Dubai’s most eye-poppingly expensive cars

The city of Dubai is home to 26,000 people who have a net worth of more than a million dollars. As a result, there is something of an arms race between the city’s many wealthy residents concerning who can turn up in the most extravagant luxury car.

Famously, Dubai’s streets are bristling with high performance supercars and lavishly upholstered luxury sedans. However, for the ultra rich, it isn’t enough just to buy a fancy car. The next step is to customise some of the world’s most exclusive cars in order to create something that is uniquely opulent.

Here are some of Dubai’s most astoundingly expensive cars:

1) Platinum, gold and gem encrusted Lamborghini Aventador

The Lamborghini Aventador sells for a not insubstantial $310,000. However, this version is worth an astonishing $4.7 million, due to the fact that it is constructed from platinum, gold and gem stones. Even more astonishing, given the price tag, is that this is not a car that you can drive to the shops. It’s actually a model that has gone down in history as the most expensive remote controlled car ever.

2) Aston Martin One-77 Police Car

Given the extraordinary preponderance of supercars in Dubai, the police force require something that is a bit quicker than a standard hatchback. To this end, one of only 77 of Aston Martin’s One-77 hypercar will find its way into the hands of the Dubai police. This car, which is the fastest Aston Martin ever, retails for an eye watering $1.4 million.

3) The Super bus

This 49 feet long, custom-built vehicle can carry 23 passengers at a speed of up to 255 km/h. It was built for a Dubai sheikh and looks like a stretch Lamborghini. The car is worth an extraordinary $10 million, which makes it the second most expensive car in the world.

4) Diamond encrusted Mercedes Benz SL600

Where gold plated cars are ten a penny, it was inevitable that someone in Dubai would take things a stage further. This Mercedes Benz SL600 has been coated in 300,000 diamonds to make it one of the world’s most in-your-face expressions of wealth.
