Dubai Police BMW i3 uae 1

Say hello to Dubai’s new police car

In a city where it seems there is a cool car at every corner, perhaps it is only fitting that the police are getting in on the act. The newest addition to the fleet of Dubai’s police force has been confirmed as none other than the BMW i3 Electric super car.

Dubai Police BMW i3The Dubai Police has form in terms of its taste for super cars of distinction – it already has a Porsche 918 Spyder and Bugatti Veyron in its ranks. Now, in keeping with the green initiatives which has seen electric charging stations pop up in the city, Dubai Police have announced a cleaner, but still desirable, model will be used to carry out duties.

The government got in on the act at a launch event for the vehicle, held in Dubai’s financial district. Suhail Al-Mazrouei, the United Arab Emirates energy minister, described how the acquisition was in line with efforts to ensure at least 10 per cent of all government vehicles are electric. The initiative itself is part of a wider scheme to slash CO2 emissions over a four year period by 15 per cent.

It has been suggested that high speed pursuits are one of the reasons why Dubai Police is under pressure to equip itself with high powered vehicles. Known as a forward thinking city, the steps taken by Dubai’s police to embrace sustainable technologies should certainly be applauded, and positions them as one of the world’s progressive thinking forces. A Car Free Day which was held in Dubai this year succeeded in persuading no less than 60,000 people to not use their vehicle, using other methods of transport including the metro system.

The pure battery version of the BMW i3 is capable of completing a distance of 200 km. It came away with the Best Urban Car prize during the most recent World Car of the Year awards. Using a DC charger it takes only 15 minutes to give the car full battery, which could be welcomed by a busy police force which needs its vehicles fuelled up and ready to go.

Nissan Pathfinder 2018

The Nissan Pathfinder gets a makeover

Nissan have released the all-new Pathfinder, and it’s had a bit of a makeover. Originally a failed experiment by Mazda, the Pathfinder was only produced in Burma for ‘official use’. Without even bothering to make any Pathfinders in their home of Japan, Mazda eventually decided to ditch the Pathfinder and pretend that it never happened. That all changed however in the mid-1980s when Nissan decided to get in on the act with their very own Pathfinder. Such was Mazda’s embarrassment concerning the original Pathfinder, that they didn’t even object to Nissan stealing the name wholesale.

Nissan Pathfinder 2018 UAEThe stolen name had no impact on the success of Nissan’s Pathfinder and the SUV is currently in its fourth generation. The most recent update is the mid-life update, which is scheduled to arrive in the UAE this month. Those who are looking to purchase luxury cars are probably not going to be interested in the Pathfinder, but the SUV definitely has a mid-range audience thanks to its reliability. Nissan have announced that prices will start at AED 119,000, which will get car buyers the basic spec, two wheel drive Pathfinder. For those willing to stretch their budget, the top-spec, all-wheel drive version is available for AED 169,000.

Nissan Pathfinder 2018 UAEThe makeover is pretty comprehensive, there are new taillights and rear bumpers, and there’s also a redesigned bonnet and front bumper. The grille has also been revised and Nissan have even updated smaller details such as the fog lights and the mirrors which now have integrated indicators. They’ve paid attention to some practical details too, a simple wave of the foot whilst it’s under the bumper will make the bonnet lift up and inside the SUV buyers will find that the Nissan comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display as standard.

Under the bonnet there’s a 3.5-litre V6 which has been fine tuned to boost the horsepower by 7 per cent, and Nissan have also stated drivers can expect to experience more torque than previous versions. The all-wheel drive system which is available on the higher-spec models has selectable modes such as 4WD lock mode, and there’s hill-start assist available too.

Lexus LC500 Coupe 2018

Lexus launches 2018 Lexus LC500 Coupe in UAE

The Lexus LC Coupe has finally been launched in the UAE and not only is it beautiful but it is filled with cutting-edge technology that is typical of Lexus.

Lexus LC500 Coupe 2018The LC Coupe was unveiled during a private event in Dubai and there is no doubt that we will see hoards of these beautiful machines flooding the streets with its drop dead gorgeous looks and performance power unit options.

The petrol engine edition churns out a massive 468 bhp from a growling, but sophisticated, V8 mounted up front through a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The high number of gears ensures that the power is always available and most importantly, always manageable. It provides the driver with a steady application of power so there are no nasty surprises when that right foot hits the floor. To further aid driveability the power is sent to the rear wheels through the same advanced rear differential that was fitted to the LFA supercar.

Lexus LC500 Coupe 2018The eco-friendly hybrid version of the LC Coupe comes with a 295 bhp V6 coupled with a 59 bhp electric motor. While you can expect lower performance figures from the hybrid version of the LC Coupe, the benefits of the multistage hybrid system are more than enough to overcome these shortcomings.

When at highway cruising speeds (140 kph) the system stops the engine from driving the wheels and leaves that to the electric motor. The engine is then turned into a giant generator to charge the electric motor which results in far greater fuel efficiency.

As expected of any Lexus, the interior of the car is filled to the brim with luxurious touches and gadgets that make the driving experience as pleasant as possible. The seats are trimmed with leather and interior features include a Mark Levinson 13 speaker Sound System, a 10.3-inch TFT touchscreen for multimedia and GPS control, Bluetooth connectivity and Lexus’s System + which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind spot mirrors and collision detection.

Prices range from 395,000 AED for the base “Touring” model and top out at 450,000 AED for the maxed out “Carbon Spec”.

Shelby Logo

Ford unleash a powerhouse in the form of the Shelby F-150

Ford, home of some of the world’s most iconic muscle cars, have a hard earned reputation for reliable power. It’s because of Ford’s reliability however that some car buyers were left disappointed with the Ford F-150. While the F-150 still supplied drivers with a decent amount of muscle under the bonnet, some complained that the driving experience felt a little bit too pedestrian. Those niggles and complaints have seemingly been taken on board if the 2017 Shelby F-150 is anything to go by. Not only is there plenty more horsepower, but the Shelby is a lot angrier too.

Shelby F150 UAEA quick glance underneath the bonnet reveals an absolutely huge 5-litre V8 engine, which will pump out a huge amount of power to all four wheels. The 5-litre V8 is only the beginning however, Shelby have gone all out and packed in a supercharger along with all-new fuel injectors. It doesn’t end there either, owners of the Shelby can also expect to take advantage of what Shelby is describing as a ‘high performance’ air intake and a billet throttle. All of those extras ensure the Shelby is no slouch with its eye-watering 760 horsepower. When you consider the Ford F-150 truck has 375 horsepower under the bonnet, the Shelby has a significant power advantage.

Shelby 150 UAE 1Unfortunately, car news from Shelby have been a little thin on the ground when it comes to the top speeds and the sprint times. It’s safe to assume however that in a drag race between the Shelby and the Ford F-150, the Shelby would leave Ford well behind. Whether or not the Shelby’s power will be enough to appeal to buyers in the UAE however remains to be seen. Although those who are keen will have to be incredibly quick, the pickup truck has been limited to only 150 units worldwide, making them one of the most exclusive trucks on Earth.

Shelby F150 Uae 2On the outside it appears that the Mustang Super Snake has been a source of inspiration for the Shelby, there’s a unique hood with its own air scoops on board, along with all-new bumpers, and the bigger grill will mean the Shelby is able to suck in more air. Those who want others to know about the Shelby’s power won’t be disappointed either thanks to the output being displayed on the badge. Its potential speed is supported by dual stripes and there’s some impressive looking 22-inch alloys. The interior also has a dusting of luxury thanks to the bespoke plaque and floor mats, there’s even a snake emblem on the armrest and special embroidery. So if it’s a combination of luxury, power and practicality you’re after, the Shelby could be the 2017 truck for you.

Honda UAE

Honda to unleash the 2017 CR-V in the UAE

Honda CRV 2017 UAEHonda have been a little slow in releasing new cars in the UAE of late, but that all looks set to change with the latest set of car news from the Japanese company. After showing off the 2017 CR-V models last year, they have finally arrived in the UAE and are now available for those who up until now had been waiting patiently for them.

Unfortunately, there is a bit of a catch concerning the models that will be for sale in the UAE. For those who were expecting a 1.5-litre car complete with a turbocharged four-cylinder unit and 190 horsepower, we have some bad news, those models are not going to be available. Instead, UAE customers will be able to get their hands on the 2.4-litre version.

There is, however, plenty of good news about the 2017 CR-V models starting with the fact that CVT transmissions will come as standard across all the cars. Customers will also get the choice of front-wheel or all-wheel drivetrains.

Honda CRV 2017 UAE 1Also on offer to residents of the UAE is the choice of nine different exterior finishes. This kind of choice isn’t available in other markets, although if Honda’s history is anything to go by, it’s highly likely that the white and silver finish will be the most popular option. If however, you’re after something more original, other finishes include everything from dark blue and red, to olive green. Stepping inside, there is a black and ivory fabric available and there’s also the option of having a leather trim added.

The 2017 CR-V models have been completely refreshed and Honda have clearly put the work in when it comes to ensuring the 2017 versions are more than just an update. There’s LED lights which will now come as standard for the headlights. Car buyers can also expect to have both 17 and 18-inch alloys as an option and there’s also a brand-new instrument panel. Honda CRV 2017 UAE 2Previous models of the CR-V had drawn some criticism for the amount of rear legroom available, but for 2017, Honda have stated that it will have the ‘best rear legroom’ in its class.

Finally, for those who have their eye on the EX and Touring versions, there is some good connectivity news. Honda have fitted a 7-inch display which promises to have Android Auto compatibility as well as Apple CarPlay.

Rolls Royce Logo

Rolls-Royce showcase new collection taking inspiration from Sheikh Zayed

Rolls-Royce have revealed seven new cars as a tribute to Sheikh Zayed, the late UAE President. The seven cars, which reflects the amount of Emirates within the UAE, have been commissioned by Abu Dhabi Motors with the idea that the collection will demonstrate varying attributes that represent the country. Created in England, the luxury cars took a year to make and will have car buyers in the UAE eagerly awaiting the ‘Wisdom Collection’ which is set to include a couple of Phantom Coupés and Wraiths, a Ghost, a Phantom VII and a Dawn.

Rolls Royce DubaiThe Phantom VII, which takes its inspiration from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, will have the biggest and most complex embroidery ever seen in a Rolls-Royce car. The highly luxurious design took over 800 hours to create and features just under 400,000 stitches.

The collection also has two Phantom Coupés; the first one, which is simply called The Phantom Coupé, has been inspired by Qasr Al-Hosn Fort, while the other coupé, named the Phantom Drophead, has its design based on the Desert Rose. Qasr Al-Hosn Fort has a rich history and is one of the oldest stone buildings that you can find in Abu-Dhabi. Rolls-Royce has taken the time to recognise the history in their Phantom Coupé design, with pastel shades and highly intricate architectural details which reflect the geometric nature of the fort. Meanwhile, the other Coupé has a much more delicate design, aimed at accurately and tastefully representing the tranquillity that the Desert Rose has.

The Wraiths in the collection will also represent unique aspects of the UAE, the Falconry Wraith aims to get across the essence of falconry the UAE has with strength, power and authority all making its way into the car’s design. The other Wraith was commissioned to pay homage to the Sheikh Zayed Bridge, evident in the car’s flowing form and Royal Blue exterior. The Dawn in the collection has been designed by Rolls-Royce as a way of reflecting the UAE’s pearling tradition, with Rolls-Royce Motors saying that both the interior and exterior of the car mimic the marriage between pearls and the sea.

Finally we come to The Ghost, a car crafted by Rolls-Royce to represent the ancient trade routes in the UAE. The car exquisitely manages to combine a sandstone and white design with a motif in gold to give The Ghost a richly historical feel within a modern setting.

Mitsubishi Pajero 2018

The worst kept secret, the Mitsubishi Pajero

The Mitsubishi Pajero has been a mainstay in the UAE for decades now, but for most of that time it has been primarily a car for Expats; particularly teachers. In recent years however increasing numbers of GCC citizens having been discovering the charms of this remarkable little SUV for themselves. Initially sales were for second cars, but as the current financial crisis has deepened, many have turned to it as their main vehicle.

Mitsubishi Pajero 2018 latest 1Five years ago an entry level Pajero would set you back 120,000AED but this price has plummeted to a mere 90,000AED now. While this price drop would in the past have discouraged many GCC citizens from buying a Pajero (many preferring to purchase the most expensive options available), the incredible abilities of the Pajero have earned the respect of true desert folk.

While the Mitsubishi Pajero is considered a huge car in Europe (where it is sold as the Shogun), in the UAE it is a mid-sized family car dwarfed by Land Cruisers and Patrols. Despite this it still has a dominating driving position that is a joy to all who drive it. Throw in fantastic toys, incredibly comfortable seats and plenty of leg room and you’ve got yourself a great car.

…but there are plenty of great cars out there, so why is this one slowly gathering a following from the locals?

Mitsubishi Pajero 2018 latestThe fact is that the respect is far from new. While many Emiratis have preferred to buy Nissan Patrols (partly due to the incredible speed possible with them once they have been tuned up), they have always been aware of what this little gem can do. On the road the Pajero is competent, a good car. Off road it is a beast and its small 3.5 or 3.8 litre engine produces performances that cars with twice that size would be proud of.

Years of rescuing untrained Westerners from the desert have allowed Emiratis to see what this wolf in sheep’s clothing can do and they have been quietly impressed. Quite some time ago it became clear that the only reason a Pajero would ever get stuck in the Empty Quarter would be due to poor driving technique, they noted this and approved of the car. Now, with finances being a little tighter, GCC citizens are flocking to this marvel for themselves, and who can blame them?

Customised Jeep UAE

new restrictions on car customising In UAE

In face of the rising interest in modified cars, the UAE’s Minister of State, Dr Rashid Ahmed Bin Fahad, announced at the beginning of June the government’s intention to introduce rules to ensure that customised cars are safe for drivers and passengers.

Voltron Motors UAEThis came just after the hottest transport news in UAE: that actor Tyrese Gibson, star of the “Fast and Furious” series of films, had opened the first overseas branch of his Voltron business in Sharjah. The Texas-based company produces custom versions of Jeep Wranglers and has signed an agreement with Sharjah Asset Management, the Government of Sharjah’s investment body, to open in Sharjah and offer vehicles in almost 300 showrooms.

The popularity of customisation for car buyers was highlighted by claims that 17 of Gibson’s Volton models were sold in the first three days after the announcement was made. Huge investment has been attracted to the modified car market with new race circuits in the UAE and car shows and meetings are increasing in number every year.

This rapid growth has raised concerns and Dr Fahad, who is also chairman of the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Meteorology, said that the authority has been working together with the relevant federal and local strategic bodies to devise a set of standards that will ensure modified vehicles do not compromise safety.

Mercedes Benz Diamond in DubaiOnce the new system is in place, car workshops and service centres will only be allowed to make modifications to cars if they conform to particular technical specifications. The new rules will not apply to caravans, trailers, tractors or motorcycles, although separate plans are in the pipeline to restrict the size of delivery motorcycles’ storage boxes after a spate of accidents and traffic violations.

Has the craze for car customising caught your interest? Are you looking for a new car you can personalise to your own design and are thinking of selling your car in UAE easily, for the best price?

Whether your current car has been modified or not, the prime place to sell it is Simply Car Buyers.

Good drivers win cars in White Points Draw In UAE

Sunday, May the 7th saw two Emirati’s winning new cars in the White Points Draw. Bilal Atiq, an employee of the Roads & Transport Authority and Sara Juma’a Othman, who works for Dubai Airports were both rewarded with brand-new Hyundai cars for their impeccable driving in the last year. The winners were announced at an event at the Al Habtoor Hotel in Dubai, which also sponsored the initiative.

Dubai White Pints AwardsThe White Points system was launched in 2012; all drivers in Dubai with a valid licence and a car registered in the city are eligible to enter but they only remain in the draw as long as they are free of traffic violations. Each month a driver has two white points allocated to them, but a single violation sees them lose their points.

This year there were exactly 2,000 drivers who could have won the prizes, 1,344 men and 656 women. There were 500 Emiratis on the list, 315 from India, 150 British Citizens and 147 Egyptians, amongst others.

Dubai Police Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Operations Major General Al Merri said, “It is a great initiative and will help encourage motorists to follow traffic rules and reduce the number of accidents and deaths. It’s spreading positive energy among drivers.”

Dubai Police BuggatiFor Bilal Atiq, the prize is the first that he has ever won. He is an enthusiastic proponent of the scheme, saying, “Such initiatives will motivate the drivers in Dubai to follow traffic instructions as they can have the chance to win a car or other rewards.”

Sara Othman told Gulf News that she thought winning would improve her driving; she only passed her test 4 years ago but encourages others to stick to the rules when driving, saying, “You never know as one day you can be rewarded for your good driving.”

With more than 26,000 motorists eligible for the scheme, it is clear that it is the minority of Dubai motorists who are committing violations. Transgressions that will remove drivers from the pool include speeding, Salik and parking fines. It is to be hoped that seeing winners take home new cars will encourage more drivers to protect their white points for next year.

Chevrolet Dubai

Chevrolet announce their Corvette Carbon 65 Edition

Chevrolet Corvette DubaiAfter five months it was almost looking like Chevrolet weren’t going to announce much in the way of special editions for 2017, this week however Chevrolet have broken their silence and announced an all-new special edition for their line up of sports cars. Although the edition will boast a number of eye catching specs, the name is relatively straightforward, it’s simply called the Corvette Carbon 65. Fans of Chevrolet can expect to find an exterior that has its own custom finish along with a raft of weight saving materials, all designed to make driving the Carbon 65 as fun as possible.

There’s no mistaking the Corvette Carbon 65, particularly when you compare it to the other cars in Chevrolet’s 2017 lineup. The carbon fibre body panels that come as standard include the roof panels and rear spoiler, along with the hood insert and centre wheel caps. The Carbon 65 also has a custom designed door, with fender graphics. The sleek look is completed by an exterior which is entirely coated in Ceramic Matrix Grey, although it looks more white than grey.

When it comes to the interior, weight has been saved pretty much everywhere you look and the steering wheel trim is no exception, which is made from carbon fibre. It’s also not short on luxury, with the Carbon 65 boasting a premium sound system courtesy of BOSE. There’s also navigation and Bluetooth pairing and cooled front seats, making it a perfect choice for the UAE.

Although there are plenty of aspects that would make the Carbon 65 ideal for the UAE, unfortunately not many of them will be seen outside of US shores. General Motors have announced that only 650 will be made and a huge 500 of those are heading to the States. It means only 150 Carbon 65s will end up being exported, so you’re going to have to be quick if you want to secure yourself one.

The Carbon 65 package will be available for an additional AED 55,095, for those who are already purchasing Corvette’s with Z06 along with the Grand Sport packages.
